iPhone OS4 has IPv6 and multi-select for media

Posted: April 11th, 2010 | Author: hourigan | Filed under: Technology | Tags: | 8 Comments »

I updated my to OS4 on Saturday. Two new features I have noticed. First IPv6 in the Wifi configuration options. Second, you can select multiple photos and video and choose to email them or upload them to mobileme. Also, events and faces in the gallery for people who use iPhoto.

Update: I’m having problem charging. I have to restart the phone before it will start charging.

Today I installed iOS 4 GM for testing IPv6 support but I can’t find the option under wifi settings :(

I just installed the new OS4 version available today. The IPv6 configuration appears to be gone. The network I have connected it to has IPv6 and was the same network that allowed IPv6 before. I’m disappointed to see they removed it. Hope it will return.

    I’m so sad.

Multi-select is not new. It is present in firmware 3.1.3 on my iPhone 3G.

Before the OS4 upgrade I was using a 3G rather than a 3GS, maybe that is why I didn’t see it before.

Even though the menu option is gone on 4.0, IPv6 IS working on my 3GS with 4.0 GM.

Great! Just tested it and it is working. http://ftp.ipv6.heanet.ie/ works.

    It seems it’s a “hidden feature” :-)

It’s a pity the interface allowing enable/disable IPv6 has gone but the feature is still there.

Try this for example: http://www.ripe.net/ (if IPv6 transport then your IPv6 address is displayed). There are many others you can try: http://www.kame.net (the dancing turtle) ; http://www.afnic.fr (a shining IPv6 star appears on top left of the page)…
